Bird leaf
I think this bird like creature came from the Magnolia tree in the garden. Sitting on a translucent light table lit from beneath by a small flash.
Gotta love the ease with which the Nikon flash can be remotely adjusted from the camera – a little trick picked up in lighting class.
Xmas cactus
2 Christmas cacti in a pot, each planted at a different time.
Here they are, blooming today.
Even house plants are having a strange spring.
Room 4 rent
Lighting class assignment (small flash) part 2 – interior.
The groans were palpable as this part of the assignment was called out as it meant preparing a staged setting. Well, you’ll just have to clean up and stage a little was the response.
The timing was perfect as I had already agreed to shoot the interior of Peggy Kelly’s B&B in Greely. This saved me from having to clean and stage my own place. The basement area even has an exercise room with sauna.
This is one of several rooms available. The best part of this kind of shoot is disposing of the evidence once you’re done. For this, the flash was bounced off the corner of the room with Auto White Balance set.
Queen Palm
Palm trees growing everywhere – like maples in Ontario.
This is the fruit / seed pod bunch on one right outside the place we’re staying.
Over 3,000 species of palm in the world. A quick google search suggests this may be a Queen palm.
Beach grass
A run up to Tampa for lunch at the best little Persian food restaurant this side of the Tacos.
After lunch, a stroll on Clearwater Beach. White, white sand, brisk wind, miles of beach right in the heart of Tampa. You can see the wind in the blowing grass
Royal Palm
Hangin’ out in Palm Bay. A visit to a local nursery. Quite a variety of palm trees, cacti & other tropical type plants.
This is a Royal Palm.

Getting up this A.M., I’m greeted with this sight.
Gotta love FL.
Reports from back home tell me there was 15 cm. of snow today. Too bad. 😉
Hibiscus
This plant was prepared from a cutting 27 years ago for Cassandra by her grandmother. Since then it has survived several mishaps. It’s had someone fall on it (breaking some of the branches), left out too late in the fall & been frostbitten twice and vandalized by cutting and apparent poisoning (what’s with that).
The plant has survived all of this and has scrawny branches sparsely populated by leaves and puts out the most beautiful flowers. The flowers don’t last long. This picture was taken yesterday for today’s image since, as I suspected, it had started to wither by today.
Flower
Stopped in at Effie’s for a short visit. The slanting sun on the wall behind this plant brought out the colours. A change from winter’s usual B&W.
