A day of real vacationing. Off alone to explore the local beaches, etc.
The beaches are long and plentiful with fine, white sand & lots of wildlife.
First stop was at Bird Key in Sarasota. The (true) Keys are a coral archipelago that extend south of Florida. Many other beach areas that extend into the ocean get called keys as well. They are mostly all built up with areas set aside for beaching & touristing. Here, this Great Blue Heron (White form) was fishing for his lunch.
Next up was Shark Tooth Beach in Venice. Folks sift the sands looking for shark teeth – black, small, sharp. All along the shore, these Brown Pelicans were dive bombing for their snacks while seagulls shadow them clean up the leftovers.
