Chief Theresa Spence, on a hunger strike for 22 days supports the “Idle No More” movement. Her protest includes a wait for the Canadian Prime Minister to arrange a meeting to discuss native affairs. Much has been written and discussed (pro & con) around the ethics of using a hunger strike to effect change.
A last minute notice came in advising that a group of 50 or so supporters had arrived from the Maritimes and that this might be a prime opportunity to get a shot of Chief Spence. This did not happen but, while she was occupied within her tee-pee, the group held a religious ceremony after which a photo op presented itself.
