Global Voices, a non-profit grass roots organization working with refugee, immigrant and Aboriginal communities, put on an interesting display of filmed documentaries and live stage music at the National Gallery.
The films were somewhat disturbing in that they documented experiences of some refugees from Asia, Africa and Central America and residential school survivors from Manitoba and Ontario. No one walked away without something to think about.
The live music was uplifting with driving drums and accompanying instruments and the finale closed the show with a celebration – I suppose representing the new life and freedom these survivors have found.
